We Agree Thought Catalogue! 13 Reasons PR Girls Are Going To Take Over The World

Recently Chelsea Fagan of Thought Catalogue wrote a fantastic article: 13 Reasons PR Girls Are Going To Take Over The World, and it was an absolute must repost from us!  Special thank you to one of our favorite blogger babes, La Bella Tanchi for sending the original article to us. It made us laugh, cry and nod our heads in agreement!  Our personal favorites are #1, 3 and 4.

<3,  Kassie and Maile, Your CEM PR Gals

As someone who is lucky enough to work in an industry heavily populated with PR girls, I have recently come to the conclusion that they are, in fact, the most perfect creatures that God has blessed us with. Between their endless energy, powerful networking, and untouchable leather iPad cover game, they are poised to take over the world. Here, 13 reasons why:

1. They never stop working. You will receive an email from them at 6:30 AM, presumably sent from the gym. You will receive an email from them at 11:45 PM, likely sent from their table at a fusion restaurant. Both emails will be perfectly-written, and full of whatever pertinent information you didn’t even realize you needed. PR girls never sleep, only close their eyes for a few minutes at a time and then get back to work.

2. They look good while doing it. One way to spot a PR girl is to check for the three S’s — statement necklace, strong purse, shiny hair. They pull off the chunky J.Crew-style necklaces like no one else in this world. They are always carrying the purse you have been coveting, or something just like it (often, it’s this one). And their hair reflects every nuance of the sun’s light in its Garnier Fructis commercial shine. Always.

3. They’ll network you without you even realizing it. You think you are having a normal conversation, but they are evaluating and planting ideas and harvesting information. And it’s not insincere — they are just operating on a totally different wavelength from you.

4. When they get a goal in mind, nothing can stop them. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of a dedicated PR girl’s efforts to make something happen — anyone who has suffered that barrage of perfectly-worded emails — knows that nothing can stop them. They will walk across hot coals to get their press release in the right hands, and somehow not mess up their pedicure.

5. They rise with the sun and engage in power breakfasts. I once attended a breakfast panel at a hotel where I was unexpectedly seated at a table with almost all PR girls. Aside from feeling like being in high school and somehow getting to sit with the popular, pretty girls at lunch, it was unbelievable to see their level of readiness. They were there twenty minutes before everyone, awake and alive, blowout on point, with questions to ask and people to talk to. I have never experienced anything more intimidating. While I was busy shoveling free carbonara breakfast pizza (!!) and french toast onto my plate, they were not touching their frittatas because there was work to be done. And I have nothing but respect.

6. They have already fused with technology. While we’re trying to experiment with Google Glass or Oculus Rift or whatever, PR girls have already been synthesized with their devices since the debut of the Palm Pilot. Their iPad is an extension of their soul, and it will never leave their side.

7. They know everyone. Name any person in your industry. They know them, and have had at least one “very productive” phone call with them. Yep.

8. They are always in peak physical condition. They have a yoga class, and a Soul Cycle class, and an entire drawer full of Lululemon. They eat salads and drink juices and take supplements. They must be in prime email-sending mode at all time, and that demands physical fitness.

9. When it comes time to go out, they go just as hard. Perhaps the only spectacle more intimidating than a group of PR girls at an important industry function is the same group, three hours later, at a club. They embody the “work hard, play hard” ideal, and pursue “drinking lychee martinis and grinding to Beyonce” with the same vigor they pursue “following up on important emails.” Never get in their way on the dance floor.

10. They know their environment like no one else. There is no better person to ask for a restaurant or bar recommendation, because they know their cities like the back of their manicured hands. They have the good shopping streets, the best happy hours, and the latest restaurants all stored in their mental rolodex of socializing.

11. They form power couples. When they choose to date, their boyfriends often work in finance or at least, on some more vague level, “business,” and the two of them form the kind of couple that makes you feel like you’ll always be an overgrown child spilling juice on yourself.

12. They travel in packs. They form migrating goose-like formations as they walk importantly down city streets. You cannot break them up, and you cannot come between them — in any sense.

13. They are always judging. Even if they’re much too diplomatic to actually say anything, they always have an opinion. They are always observing, making judgments, and deciding their next move. They can be the coolest girls in the world to hang out with, but you will always want to be just a little more on your game in their presence, because they will be judging. With love, of course.

Our Friends At Modify Have Launch A New Kickstarter Campaign

Our friends over at Modify Watches are taking their business to the next level... Custom, made-to-order watches for you, your friends / frenemies, your team or your company. You dream it up. They'll put it on a watch!
The recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help them raise the funds they need to grow their business.  Curious what their up to? Read about it below... or click here.

Any idea you have -- photo, design, logo, whatevs. Send to us. We make your new favorite watch!Any idea you have -- photo, design, logo, whatevs. Send to us. We make your new favorite watch!
  • Upload any image or graphic you want on your watch face
  • Pick from 30+ straps to mix-and-match
  • We build a custom, made-to-order watch just for YOU
Hello! We’re Team Modify, a 3-year-old, San Francisco-based startup. We collaborate with our community or “ModiFamily” to build fun, colorful products they love.
We're thrilled about “Mod-to-Order”. Our vision is to let you put any design, photo or graphic on one of our watches - fully custom, modular style for all. And after a few years in business... we're close. Mod-to-Order is for you, and can only happen with your help.
SF's finest is here to help you create your very own avocado watch! About time, am I right?SF's finest is here to help you create your very own avocado watch! About time, am I right?
For 3 years we've partnered with fans to design dope, limited-edition watches withmix-and-match faces and straps. We've also had a ton (like, billions) of people ask to design or create their own.
Mix + Match = LOVE! If you build it, you will love it.Mix + Match = LOVE! If you build it, you will love it.
Outside of a handful of reeeeally determined fans, only big companies, non-profits and major retailers have been able to afford to create custom Modify Watches. Mod-to-Order is our opportunity to change that.
We want to raise $50,000 to help source materials, expand our space and hire locally to bring printing and assembly to the U.S. This will be a HUGE shift in our business, and we're here to ask for your help to build the infrastructure and make our vision a reality.
Check out the following sections to learn more about our project:
  • The Video. Haven't seen it? Scroll up! Seen it already? Watch it again!
  • What is a "Mod"?
  • Why Mod-to-Order? (And why we are convinced you'll want one)

Or visit our website to learn more and build limited-edition wrist candy.

This is a Modify Watch (aka a “Mod”). We call our watches Mods because they are modular: our mix-and-match faces and straps allow you to create any look you want. Each Mod also has a name (say “hi”).
Black face with Black strap is Black face with Black strap is "The McQueen" (Steve, not Alexander).
Mods are affordable and come in 3,000+ colorful combinations. The more pieces you have, the more combinations: 1 face x 1 strap = 1 Mod; 3 faces x 3 straps = 9 Mods!
Math is easy when you Modify. We call it factorials of fun!Math is easy when you Modify. We call it factorials of fun!
Our audience of 30,000+ votes on designs they want produced, allowing us to introduce designs we believe our ModiFamily will love.
Then we produce our Mods overseas, and that means high minimums (we need to manufacture at least 300 of each design), long lead times and huge costs which makes one-off customization impossible.
You vote. We produce overseas. The result? Lots and LOTS of watches! No bueno for one-off :(You vote. We produce overseas. The result? Lots and LOTS of watches! No bueno for one-off :(

Our vision is not to build our designs... it's to let all ModiFamily members design the watch of their dreams. We're calling it “Mod-to-Order” - our super clever take on “made-to-order”. We want to help anyone who wants to design a fully custom / bespoke / one-of-a-kind / personalized watch to do just that.
We think of Mods as a storytelling device. Am I feeling colorful? Conservative? Sporty? With our watches, you can show your colors on a daily basis.
Wrist candy makes you dandy!Wrist candy makes you dandy!

But, and this is a BIG BUT, we’ve never been able to deliver one-off, 100% gen-u-ine, unique designs for you. Mod-to-Order is our chance to finally reach that vision.
Our fans have asked for it. And we think you, your friends, your family, your team or your company might want one (or six!) of the following:
  • Drawings your kids did
  • Pictures of loved ones, pets or enemies (always good to keep them close)
  • Gifts for your startup or bowling pals, highlighting your brand, team name or logo
  • Artwork you’ve created which you want to see on a new canvas
  • Private-label designs for your brand or retail store to resell
  • Commemorative imagery to capture a perfect moment in time (um, wedding?)
  • Fundraising tools for non-profits
  • Clever ideas like your face… on a watch face (!!!)
  • Pretty much anything. Though we don’t recommend designs with your Social Security number, PIN or mother's maiden name.
Some ideas we've been testing... let your imagination run wild! Some ideas we've been testing... let your imagination run wild!

We’ve been lucky enough to work with some awesome brands like Google, SurveyMonkey, Riot Games and Nike to design custom watches, and they love their wrist candy. However, not everyone can afford to design 300+ custom watches.
BIG TIME (no, literally): check out some watches we designed for these brands!BIG TIME (no, literally): check out some watches we designed for these brands!
We’re inspired by SUPER fans such as Brandon Ortwein, who actually took a watch apart, painted on his own design and put it back together to create a custom Mod.
See?? We're not the only ones serious about custom watches!See?? We're not the only ones serious about custom watches!
Our minds? Blown (Preview, by the thousands who submit their own artwork or vote on specific designs.

The ModiFamily has spoken, and we hope to introduce Mod-to-Order as the way to make personalized designs accessible to our entire community

Here’s the plan kids, from your idea to you wearing the watch.

We’ve been planning Mod-to-Order for quite some time (18 months to be exact). We need $50,000 to turn our vision into reality, but can only get there with your support!
The funds raised from this campaign will go towards:
  • Component parts: Watches aren’t made out of thin air... yet. Until that day comes, we’ll need to source all of our components for Mod-to-Order -- plenty of scratch-resistant cases, water-tight seals, watch hands and of course high-quality movements, which is industry lingo for "the things that keep ‘em tickin’”
  • A new website: 10001010101010101. Sorry, that was a technical joke. For us to put your designs on a watch, we need to make it easy for you to send us those designs.
  • Printing capability: We’re not talking about hand-painted designs or your run-of-the-mill desk jet; we’ll need a commercial-grade, high-resolution printer to make your watches pristine! We’ve been testing all types of printers to varying degrees of success, and need to figure out the best, most cost-effective way to do this.
  • Expanded space for assembly: Assembling these bad boys the right way isn’t easy. We’ll need a clean space that’s dust free (aka nowhere near Aaron's desk).
  • Finally, we’ll be hiring folks in the U.S. for printing / assembly. We’ve created 8 full-time jobs so far, and are excited to expand our reach.

Our Top Ten Favorite Bloggers in Kix'ies

Want to take your outfit to the next level? Kix'ies are the perfect solution for an accessory that's classy and comfortable. 10 of our favorite bloggers are styling their Kix'ies below… and the possibilities are endless! Whether you want to show the band or keep the secret to yourself, these ladies are rocking them in these looks!

Fashion Addict LA

We love the contrast in this outfit; fully covered with the jacket and just showing a hint of leg with her Kix'ies. A perfect mix of class and sex appeal.

All Things Kate
Did you know she was wearing Kix'ies? A perfect example of how they can be worn without showing the band! And the best part? They stay up! No need to adjust them like you have to do with tights.

Hooah and Hiccups

We love this classic look; perfect for a date night or girls night out! Samantha also chose the hide the band and give off the impression she was wearing ordinary tights. But according to her, Kix'ies are anything but ordinary!

A Pinch of Lovely
This outfit is all about transitioning from day to night; by adding her Kix'ies and a jacket, she's ready to take her daytime look to nighttime fab!

Laura Lily

Snow on the ground? No problem! By adding her Kix'ies to this outfit, she was able to rock this fabulous red dress in the middle of winter. We love it!

Laeisha Barton

LaEisha shares how Kixies can give you a classic look or a sexy edge. She loves how they stay up without slipping down throughout the day or night. And that makes us happy too!

Kristin Marie

We love Kristin's look! She raves about Kix'ies and their amazing fit for all sizes. Doesn't she look great?!

According to Kimberly
We love the subtle hint of pattern mixing here with the long aztec tribal dress and her spotted Kix'ies! Perfect of example of a more "casual" look with Kix'ies.

Camilia's Closet

We love this New Years Eve look! Perfect example of how Kix'ies can complete any look for a special occasion.

Styleista Confessions

We love how she paired the Kix'ies with black booties and a neutral dress. They're the perfect touch to a classy look!

How do you wear your Kix'ies? Do you prefer to show the band or cover it up with a dress?

Best Dressed At The Grammy's

We all love the Grammys because we love the music and the artists behind it. But how can we not be excited about the fashion portion of it as well?! I mean, watching the celebrities arrive and strut their stuff down the Red Carpet is just as exciting as seeing who wins and what outrageous performances occur during the show.
While watching the Red Carpet prior to the show starting, I noticed that there were all types of different styles and colors yet they seemed to somewhat repeat themselves. Sheer fabric was HUGE this year; some of my favorite celebrities wearing this style included:

Kasey Musgraves

and seriously… how cute is her bump?!

And another favorite look of mine, old Hollywood glam; loving these looks by:

Colbie Caillat

Miranda Lambert

These ladies looked stunning in red as did Pink and Tamar Braxton.

Everyone seemed to be buzzing over Taylor Swift and Katy Perry but I'm not sold on the dresses; but I do love both of those ladies and their music and both of their performances were two of my favorites.

And I'd have to give best dressed male to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis or Robin Thicke;

And worst dressed? Don't even get me started on that but I would have to say my top picks were Madonna and Paris Hilton. There were a few artists and guests showing way too much skin (or grills?) and it just looked super tacky and inappropriate for such a classy event.

What were your favorite looks and trends?!
